What’s Next?: Evaluating Your ‘Post-Pandemic’ Career Strategy

In the 1999 motion picture, The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, we explored the power of choice. We explored how going in one direction or another can not only affect yourself and your future but also those around you.  As we sojourn through a post-‘panini’ (yes…I refuse to call it by name) existence we have choices to make.

One of the pivotal moments we witnessed in the film was watching Neo, the protagonist, learn the meanings of the “red pill’ and “blue pill”.  The terms “red pill” and “blue pill” refer to a choice between the willingness to learn a potentially unsettling or life-changing truth by taking the red pill or remaining in contented ignorance with the blue pill.

Let’s identify the issue

The biggest conflict we are currently facing as we live past current life-changing events (namely, ‘The Great Panorama of 2020’) is that those who need to be employed are exploring the following:

  • A major decision that HAS to be made – Do I return to work? Or Do I stay a free agent?
  • Who can I trust? The government giveth and the government taketh away (unemployment, stimulus checks, free hugs).
  • Making these decisions could change my life for the better or turn it into a comparable dumpster fire that was in the world in 2020.

If you can identify any of the aforementioned scenarios, keep reading to examine potential options to moving forward in the ‘Pon de Replay’ safely and with presence of mind.

 What are your choices?

It’s always nice to have options.  Below we will dive into what might be in arms reach for yourself or someone who might need this info.  Really think about which would best suit you by looking into:

  • Re-entering the workforce and making a steady dollar
  • Staying independent by becoming an entrepreneur
  • Go off the grid and live amongst the earthworms and wildebeest
  • Find work that fulfills you and where you can see longevity

Steps to solving these problems…

These suggestions may not work for everyone but consider assessing your current circumstances by reviewing

  • What is my skill set?
  • Do I have mentorship?
  • Have I created a strategy for the future?

Conclusion

There are choices to be made.  Only you know what you can live with.  Every choice presented can be scary. But the question remains – Are you taking the red pill, blue pill or will you remain stuck in The Matrix?  The choice is yours.
